Finally - a tool that will help you stick with it ...
I had started playing guitar as a youngster but I had been away from it for many years. In 'picking it back up' I had become frustrated in the past several years because there are so many "can't miss" books and lesson series out there. I couldn't quite put a finger on the problem until I picked up this DVD and the book to which it corresponds (Fretboard Theory). The problem was that it never made sense until now. I had become proficient at memorizing songs/tabs that I really spent a lot of time with (NOT the way to do it) ... and although it sounds pretty good (sometimes), I didn't actually know what I was doing musically. This book starts at a level that is basic enough and really connects the dots, so to speak. I very strongly recommend it - you will not be disappointed. The point that the author makes, which is so important, is that as a student you must tie the theory to a practical application. So many songs that you know use the pentatonic scale and it's really helpful to tie the lessons in the DVD/book to great tunes that you are familiar with ...

Desi Serna's Pentatonic Scale DVD
Desi Serna's Pentatonic Scale DVD is one of the best learning materials for a serious guitar player/beginner I have seen in two years!
Desi's approach to every aspect of pentatonic scales is simple and direct. There are no confusing instructions and everything is shown on the screen.
One will gain even more if he/she purchases a book by Desi Serna titled Guitar Theory where the author in a chapter by chapter format explains how the guitar theory works. I only wish I had more time to devote to my guitar playing experience. Keep up good work, Desi!

Impressed ? YES!
I have bought a multitude of DVD lessons lately, looking for the best teacher that presents the lessons in an easy to grasp manner. I bought all of his DVDs on the hope that the reviews here were honest and true to form. This is my first review on Amazon. I have been truely impressed by the material and the author. His presentation of the Pentatonic scale has made it easy to see the patterns in my brain, as well as think in Pentatonic. Lessons by the other DVD teachers didn't click, and became too boring. To keep up the work of learning a new language so to speak, these DVD fill that desire and keep me interested so I don't give up learning.

Wow!!! the BEST in the market!!!!
I just want to give thanks to Mr. Desi Serna, i got The 4 DVDS and the book Fretboard Theory, this is the best material to learn guitar outside, before this i bought material from hal leonard, but i found it very difficult for a begginer and dont explain things well! but when you took the Desi Serna's Book, and put the DVD at the same thing, you would see everything clearly, he explains slowly, and show u different fingering methods in each topic, u use the best for you... and let me tell you something, i order the full pack, 4dvds + book, but the first time my package dont arrive, i email to desi and he send me another copy, trust me, this is the best, and hey if you want to know if the guy plays, just enter to youtube and search for Desi serna, and you would be amazed, i dont even speak english well, im from Panama Central america, anyone can buy his material, when i put the DVD and hear it talking i can understand everything from him, is like we have my own teacher, and if you have any doubt just email him, and he answer the mails (VERY IMPORTANT!!!)
